Spanish airliner Air Europa affirmed on Thursday that it has discontinued its sale of tickets to Venezuela, where the exchange control makes it difficult the exchange of foreign currency.
....The spokeswoman did not specify the reasons for the move. However, a close source explained that the decision is linked to "what is going on as well with the rest of airliners: troubles with the exchange of bolivars for US dollars."
Tony Tyler, the CEO of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), had underlined in November during a forum in Mexico that the sector faced a challenge in Venezuela, where USD 2.6 billion of funds belonging to air companies were blocked by the government and threatened by drastic devaluation."
