GREEN Party leader Natalie Bennett pledged yesterday to increase the
top rate of income tax to 60p in the pound if her party wins power.
She said the measure would bring in an extra £2 billion a year for
public services and act as a disincentive to firms paying “excessively
high” salaries to senior staff.

The Greens have also proposed a “wealth tax” of 2 per cent a year
targeting people worth more than £3 million, who would be expected to
declare their own assets.
